SAI Tutorial by khallix SAI Tutorial by khallix
Here is the SAI tutorial I promised (a looong long time ago)

This tutorial isn't about the techniques or coloring styles but the TOOLS and their settings I use.

In most tutorials the artists don't mention what brush-settings they use they only explain HOW they use them for their techniques.
So I made a tutorial with my brush settings, so that it might help the beginners where and how to start with Sai and their tablet.

I forgot to mention that most of the time I only recline upon pen pressure so that I don't change anything in the brush settings.

But I really hope it can help you all!

PS: Sorry for the grammar and typo mistakes XDD

Sorry I only use tablet when I'm drawing :(

Buut maybe you can use the vector option in sai (it's next to the "new layer" option on the right with a pen on the icon, namely "new linework layer") then you can set the line to 1px or a bit bigger and then you can make thin lines with mouse :) you just neec to click around the drawing's lineart and join up the points :)

aww thank you dear, but it's really just a crappy tutorial I don't even use this kind of method anymore ^^;
Maybe I should make a new tutorial about my new techniques instead ^^

It's not crappy, expecially for people who just started to use graphic tablet. :)
But if You make another one, it would be great. :D

How do you get your lines to be so clean!? When i use my tablet to draw the lines are super squiggly and messy and i cant draw straight curved lines. :iconimsadplz:

maybe it's because of the pen pressure? you can set it in sai too!
Besides I always zoom into the picture and draw the lines fast, that can help too! and always work in big sizes! (like 3000x2000 px etc) :) hope it helps

:/ Another one using the magic wand..Well, your tutorial looks awesome, but I can't use it. All I get from the magic wand is just a giant screen that's blue and it covers the entire picture..:/ Since you don't explain how the wand works or what to expect from it or even how to make it work properly I can't use your tutorial. :/ Your tutorial looks cool though..Shame I can't use it.

I thought it was common knowledge how to use a magic wand since it works the same as in photoshop. That's why I didn't explain it because there is nothing to be explained about it. Maybe except that you have to have your lineart separated from the background layer. that's all. I don't know why it doesn't work for you.
Besides, I don't always use the magic wand tool, since with tablet it sometimes easier to color the small parts with a small brush without using the magic wand :/
I only added it because most people would use it anyway, without me mentioning it.

:/ Its not if you don't know how to use it. Besides I had to ask someone how to do it and we spent almost three hours trying to figure out why it didn't work and finally at 9pm or so. We got it to work.

I would use my tablet too, but I don't remember where I downloaded the installation disk and this laptop is so slow I rather just use the mouse. So I figured if I could learn how to use the Magic Wand it would help, but that cause me more problems than good and I didn't figure it out until three hours later with the help of a Deviant Artist by the name BeyondBirthday1313.

A/4 is the "best" for beginners in my opinion. bigger sizes are only for those who want to make wallpapers etc of their pictures :) and Sai can't take pictures bigger than 4500x4500px anyway :)

Shining of the wings we can add without Photoshop too - just use the brush (white colour and low density) and draw a halo around the wings at the layer under the wings. Than use the blur to smooth over all burrses.

Good tutorial and great art! *___*

:iconkhallix:

But then the shine wouldn't be the same everywhere and I NEVER ( :D) use blur. I just... well.. HATE that tool xD

But thank you for the tip, I apreciate it :)

And I newer use water tool (yap - I don't like it))))
Well...for me it's easyer to do the shining in this way, than to open photoshop (I'm too lazy XD ) And some tine the shine, that isn't the same ewerywhere is more...hm...more verisimilar =3
